Red product recall stamp regarding the consumer products recalled over hazard concerns

Health Canada has issued notices warning consumers about the recall of consumer products due to concerns about hazards.

The recalled items include vaping products, painting products, and glue. Health Canada will issue a notice whenever it receives reports that a product has been recalled due to hazards including mislabeling, chemicals, poisoning, flammability, and others.

100 mg/mL Nicotine Base and Nicotine Salt Recall

On April 21, the agency issued a recall notice for certain vaping products over concerns that they posed a threat of nicotine poisoning. According to the recall, the products, including various sizes of 100 mg/mL Nicotine Base Solution and Nicotine Salt Base Solution, do not meet the requirements of Consumer Chemicals and Containers Regulations under the Consumer Product Safety Act.

According to Health Canada, the amount of nicotine is higher than permitted under the Act. Vaping liquids that contain equal to or over 66 mg/g nicotine is considered “very toxic.”

“Vaping liquids containing nicotine may pose a poisoning hazard if ingested. Improper packaging and labelling could result in unintentional exposure to these products and lead to serious illness, injury or death.”

The products were manufactured by Ontario-based E-cigsupply.ca, notes the agency in the hazard recall notice. The recalled consumer products were made in Canada and sold from February of 2013 through April of 2020. Approximately 500 products were sold and a list of affected products is included on the Health Canada recall notice.

Fortunately, the company has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to these products.

Health Canada instructs consumers in possession of the recalled vaping products to dispose of them properly or contact the company for instructions on how to dilute the product appropriately. Consumers can return the product for a replacement. Consumers who need more information can email info@e-cigsupply.ca.

Gamblin Artists’ Materials Recalled

A number of paint and other art supply products have been recalled, according to another Health Canada notice, because their labelling is incorrect and does not contain hazard information.

According to the recall notice, dozens of Gablin Artists’ materials, from linseed and poppy oils to gamsol and gloss, are not correctly labelled. The recalled products are listed on the Health Canada hazard recall notice. Health Canada notes products that include a hazard symbol on their font labels are not included in the recall.

“The lack of labelling information could result in unintentional exposure to the product and lead to serious illness, injury or death,” states the notice.

The recalled Gamblin Artists’ materials were sold between 2017 and 2019. Approximately 5,400 units were sold. No injuries have been reported to the company as of April 6, 2020.Gamblin art products regarding the consumer products recalled over hazard concerns

Health Canada instructs consumers with the product to stop using it immediately and either dispose of it according to municipal waste regulations or return it to the place of purchase for a refund. According to the notice, consumers are prohibited from reselling or redistributing the recalled products.

Gamblin Artists’ is based in Portland, Ore. and manufactured the recalled items. For more information, consumers can contact the company at 1-503-235-1945.

Satellite City Hot Stuff Glue Recall

Health Canada has also announced the recall of a cyanoacrylate glue made by Satellite City Hot Stuff for a lack of child-resistant packaging and hazard information on the label.

According to the notice, the recalled item comes in a small white bottle with a tall black cone-shaped lid. It has a bright label and can be identified by its UPC code, 74891 01400.

The glue is a quick skin-bonding adhesive. These types of glue must meet certain requirements for child-resistant packaging, notes the agency, and the Satellite City Hot Stuff cyanoacrylate glue does not.

“This type of glue is capable of bonding skin instantly,” states the Health Canada hazard recall notice. “The lack of child-resistant packaging could result in unintentional exposure to these products and lead to serious illness or injury.”

The product was made by California company Satellite City Inc. Instant Glues and imported by Robert Hall Originals, based in Ontario. Approximately 500 bottles of the glue were sold between 2009 and April 2020. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported to the company.

Health Canada says that consumers should stop using the product and dispose of it appropriately.

Hazardous Product Recalls by Health Canada

“If a product is recalled, it is always considered a danger to human health or safety,” states Health Canada’s website. “This means it could cause injury, death or adverse health effects (temporary or chronic) as a result of its normal or possible use.”

Hazard recall alerts  can be found on Health Canada’s website.

“Please note that the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, sold or even given away in Canada,” states the recall notices from Health Canada. “Health Canada would like to remind Canadians to report any health or safety incidents related to the use of this product or any other consumer product or cosmetic by filling out the Consumer Product Incident Report Form.”
