GM recall overview:
- Who: General Motors is recalling certain Cadillac Vistiq SUVs and additional Cadillac models, including the Escalade, ATS, CTS, Escalade ESV, SRX and XTS.
- Why: The Vistiq’s third-row power-folding seats may not automatically reverse when an obstruction is detected, while other recalled Cadillac vehicles have driver-front airbag inflators that could rupture during deployment.
- Where: The GM recalls affect certain Cadillac vehicles in Canada.
General Motors is recalling 1,283 Cadillac Vistiq SUVs and 328 additional Cadillac vehicles over two separate safety defects, according to notices filed with Transport Canada.
The first recall, Transport Canada recall 2026302, covers 2026 Cadillac Vistiq SUVs equipped with power-folding third-row seats. GM reports the seats may not automatically reverse if they detect an obstruction while folding, which could trap occupants or objects between the seat and seatback. The recall notice was issued on June 18 and updated on July 31.
According to the GM recall notice, “a folding seatback that doesn’t reverse could increase the risk of injury.”
The second recall, Transport Canada recall 2026246, affects 328 vehicles: the 2015-2016 Cadillac ATS, CTS, Escalade and Escalade ESV; the 2013 and 2015 Cadillac SRX; and the 2015 Cadillac XTS.
GM reports the driver-front airbag inflator could rupture when the airbag deploys in a crash, potentially preventing proper inflation and propelling metal fragments toward occupants. “An airbag inflator that ruptures can create a risk of injury or death, ” the recall notice says.
The recall notice was issued on May 21 and updated on July 30.
Owners will be notified to take their vehicles to dealerships for repairs
As an interim fix, dealers will disable the third-row power-folding function of Cadillac Vistiq SUVs. GM plans to notify owners again once replacement parts are available, so they can have the third-row seat module replaced at a dealership.
Owners of affected Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, ATS, CTS, SRX and XTS models should watch for recall notices advising them to take their vehicles to a dealership to have the driver-front airbag module replaced.
For more information, consumers can contact General Motors at 1-800-263-3777. The seat recall is filed under GM recall number N262555780, and the airbag recall is filed under GM recall number N262555870.
General Motors is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
A recent class action lawsuit claims certain Chevrolet, GMC and Buick vehicles have an engine defect that causes coolant to leak — a defect GM allegedly knew about when leasing or selling the vehicles.
