Ford recall overview:

  • Who: Ford is recalling Escape and Lincoln Corsair plug-in hybrid SUVs along with Lincoln Nautilus and Police Interceptor Utility (Explorer) hybrids.
  • Why: A high-voltage battery fault could cause a short circuit, while a software issue could affect the pedestrian alert system.
  • Where: The recalls are active in Canada only.

Ford is recalling certain Escape and Lincoln Corsair plug-in hybrid SUVs in Canada and separately recalling Lincoln Nautilus and Police Interceptor Utility (Explorer) hybrid vehicles, according to two notices posted by Transport Canada.

According to Transport Canada Recall No. 2026070, first published on Feb. 18, the recall affects 2020-2026 Ford Escape vehicles and 2021-2025 Lincoln Corsair models, all equipped with a 2.5-liter engine.

Ford reports the software update installed under a prior recall may not have resolved the issue, requiring a second repair. A problem inside the high-voltage battery could cause a short circuit, potentially cutting power to the wheels or causing the battery to overheat, even while parked. This recall replaces Transport Canada No. 2025-628.

Under Transport Canada Recall No. 2026318, published on July 29, the recall affects 2024-2027 Lincoln Nautilus and 2025-2026 Ford Police Interceptor Utility (Explorer) vehicles, limited to hybrid models.

Ford reports a previous software fix may not have addressed the defect, requiring a second repair. A software problem could prevent the pedestrian alert system from functioning properly, increasing the risk of injury to others on the road.

Ford Escape owners face second repair under battery recall

To reduce risk while awaiting repairs under the battery recall, Ford advises Escape and Lincoln Corsair owners to set their maximum charge to 80% and use only normal EV mode.

Ford will notify owners by mail and arrange dealership updates to the battery energy control module and hybrid powertrain control module software.

For the pedestrian alert recall, Ford will send a wireless over-the-air software update, with a dealership option also available. Some Nautilus models will need the digital signal processor module replaced.

Canadian owners can look up recall numbers 2026070 or 2026318 through Transport Canada’s motor vehicle safety recalls database. Ford’s internal reference numbers for the prior repairs are 24S79 and 25SA2.

Ford is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Earlier in July, Ford recalled more than 741,000 SUVs and pickups across North America due to rollaway risk.
