Toyota is recalling 61 of its 2026 model SUVs — Toyota Grand Highlander, Grand Highlander Hybrid, Lexus TX350, and Lexus TX500h vehicles — due to a defect in the rear axle carriers.
The recall was announced on July 7 and affects specific models of Toyota and Lexus SUVs.
The problem stems from the rear axle carriers, also known as knuckles, which may not have been manufactured correctly. This defect could cause the rear knuckles to break and separate at the toe control arm mounting point, potentially resulting in a loss of vehicle stability.
The Toyota recall notice says the possible loss of stability could cause a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash.
Toyota to offer free inspections and repairs
Toyota plans to notify owners by mail, instructing them to bring their vehicles to a dealership for inspection and necessary repairs. The company will replace the rear axle carrier sub-assemblies if needed, ensuring the vehicles meet safety standards.
For more information about the recall, consumers can visit Transport Canada’s motor vehicle safety recalls database or contact Toyota directly at 1-888-869-6828 to check if their vehicle is affected.
Toyota says it has not received any reports of injuries related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
Toyota is currently facing a class action lawsuit alleging it sold and leased vehicles equipped with defective UA80 eight-speed automatic transmissions prone to premature failure.
