Cadillac recall overview:

  • Who: General Motors is recalling 10,172 Cadillac Optiq SUVs.
  • Why: A software issue may cause the window’s automatic reversal system to fail.
  • Where: The recall is active in Canada.

General Motors is recalling more than 10,000 Cadillac Optiq SUVs due to a potential safety hazard with the vehicles’ power windows. The recall affects models from the years 2025, 2026 and 2027 and is limited to vehicles in Canada.

The recall notice, issued on Sept. 24 and updated on Oct. 9, addresses a software malfunction that may prevent the automatic reversal system of the front power windows from functioning correctly when using the key fob’s “express-up” feature.

This defect could result in the window failing to stop and retract upon detecting an obstruction, posing a risk of injury.

GM to offer option of over-the-air software update

General Motors is taking proactive steps to resolve the issue by offering a software update to correct the malfunction. This update will be delivered wirelessly to eligible Cadillac Optiq vehicles, ensuring a swift and convenient solution for affected owners.

Owners also have the option to visit a GM dealership to have the update applied in person. “General Motors will notify owners by mail and send a wireless over-the-air software update to eligible vehicles,” the Cadillac recall notice says.

General Motors says it has not received any reports of injury related to the Cadillac recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Earlier this year, GM issued a recall in Canada for 1,283 Cadillac Vistiq SUVs and 328 additional Cadillac vehicles.
