Luxor Workspaces has recalled around 84,700 of its Luxor audiovisual carts over concerns they could become unstable and tip over if loaded with heavy objects, such as a cathode-ray tube television (CRT TV).

The recall — which includes an estimated 1,650 Luxor audiovisual carts sold in Canada — was initiated following three reported child deaths in connection to the issue, according to a recall posted April 13 by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Luxor is concerned the recalled plastic and metal audiovisual carts could specifically present a tip-over risk to children, with, in addition to the three deaths, one serious injury reported due to incidents that occurred between 2006 and 2016.

The recall encompasses three models of Luxor’s audiovisual carts, including its WT42 “Tuffy” plastic cart; W42/AVJ42/SS-AVJ42 metal cart; and LP-DUO/TPDUOEQ plastic cart, according to the Luxor recall.

Luxor has warned consumers and individuals who work at places — such as schools, daycare centers, and places of worship — where the Luxor audiovisual carts might be used to transport CRT TVs should be “aware of the danger posed by the carts.”

Consumers who own recalled Luxor audiovisual carts urged to immediately stop using them

Luxor is urging consumers who own the recalled audiovisual carts to immediately stop using them and contact the company directly to receive a free repair kit containing parts that will add stability and weight to the product.

The company said it will also provide consumers with warning labels cautioning not to put more than 25 lbs. on the audiovisual carts shelves.

The recalled Luxor audiovisual carts have been sold since at least the early 1980s on a variety of websites, including Amazon, Grainger, and 123stores, among others, for between $125 and $150.

Consumers with more questions about the recall contact Luxor directly by email, online, or phone at 800-323-4656.

LG Electronics initiated a similar recall in January for more than 55,000 of its free-standing 86-inch LG smart TVs and stands over concerns they could become unstable and fall over.
