Product recall sign regarding the hazardous products being recalled

There have been several recalls across the nation in recent days. From food to home decor to children’s clothing, there are many recalls that Canadian consumers need to be aware of.

Two recalls have been put forth by President’s Choice, a manufacturer of family and household products. The company makes products in Canada, with a plethora of items ranging from groceries to homewares.

President’s Choice Recalls

President’s Choice Beefless Undeniable Burgers were recalled due to the presence of pieces of wood in the vegan burgers. The meatless burgers were recalled on July 15, after Loblaw Companies Limited sent out a notice. The impacted plant-based burgers are the 452 gram and 226 gram packages with expiration dates of Jan. 29, 2021, and Feb. 9, 2021. The President’s Choice burgers were sold throughout the country, according to The Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

Another President’s Choice item is in the spotlight for a hazardous recall. The company’s cordless electric kettle presents a potential fire hazard. Out of an ample amount of caution, the Loblaw Companies Limited pulled select kettles off of the shelves because there is a chance that the kettle’s handle could loosen and break off of the body of the kettle, causing hot liquids to splatter. The impacted kettle is the 1.7-litre Cordless Glass Electric Kettle, with a UPC number of 058703098701 and a PC 3718 model number.

If you purchased one of these kettles recalled, discontinue using the kettle right away and contact President’s Choice for a refund. A full refund is available if you have proof of your purchase. The date codes of the recalled electric kettle are 3218, 1218, 3917, and 1718. There have been reports of minor injuries when four separate incidents occurred across Canada. In the incidents, the affected persons reported the handle detaching from the body of the kettle and causing hot liquid to burn the users. There have been 16,188 kettles sold across the country from January 2018 to July 2020.

Home Accents Recall

Home Accents Holiday Artificial Christmas Trees are next up on the recent recall hazard list. It may still only be summer, but you might want to inspect your artificial tree if you purchased a Home Accents brand tree at Home Depot. The recall is spanning Canada and the United States. The artificial Christmas trees are said to have a foot-pedal that may overheat. The tree comes with a convenient foot-pedal to switch light modes, but this pedal controller may get too hot, causing either burns or house fires. As of July 22, Willis Electric Co., Ltd., the tree’s distributor, has been sent two claims from Canadian consumers saying smoke was coming out of the trees, but there have not been any injuries reported. However, in the United States there have been 491 overheating claims made against the pedal controller of the tree and one burn injury reported.

Before the holiday season, be sure to check your tree. The following Christmas trees have been recalled:Christmas tree pedal regarding the product recall

Bunz Kidz Recall

The last item on the list is Bunz Kidz Sleepwear Sets. The children’s pajama sets are being recalled because they’re reportedly not up to par on flammability prerequisites. The sleepwear is a hazard to children because of the potential flammability hazard. The clothing recall includes a robe, top, and pants set for children, in sizes two through 12.

Children’s sleepwear is meant to fit snugly or be fire-resistant. The loose-fitting pajama set can come in contact with a stove, candles, or other fire sources. Once the pajamas are in contact with a fire source, they can burn quickly, causing injury to children. The recalled pajama set is described as a fleece robe, white and pink star print pants, and a pink shirt with a gold script that reads “Dream in Glitter.”

No incidents or harm due to the pajamas have been reported in Canada as of July 16, according to the manufacturer. About 996 now recalled Bunz Kidz pajama sets were purchased since October 2017. If you purchased one of these pajama sets, contact the company for a refund.
