  • Who: Yoto is recalling more than 270,000 of its Yoto mini speakers, which are designed for children between the ages of 3 and 12.
  • Why: The speakers’ lithium ion battery can overheat, cause fires and lead to a burn risk.
  • Where: The speakers recall is valid in the United States and Canada.

Yoto is issuing a mini speakers recall because the products’ lithium ion batteries can overheat, cause fires and lead to a burn risk.

The mini speakers for kids recall includes 251,165 speakers in the United States and 18,932 in Canada.

The portable, screen-free speaker is intended for kids between the ages of 3 and 12. They are operated by Yoto cards and designed to play audiobooks, music, radio and podcasts.

The speakers are pale gray with orange tactile controls and a pixel display. The model name Yoto Mini, SKU PRPLXX00860, and serial number are located on the speaker base.

Speakers recall: 7 reports of overheating/melting, no injuries

Yoto has received seven speakers overheating or melting — six from the U.S. and one from the United Kingdom, according to the Yoto mini speakers recall.

Yoto says it has not received any reports of injury related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Customers are asked to stop using the speakers, take them away from children and contact Yoto for a free replacement charging cable after sending the company a photo of the old cable cut through the middle.

Yoto can be reached by phone 844-370-0426 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT, Monday through Friday; by email at minihelp@yotoplay.com; or online.

Bose issued a July 2023 recall on more than a million Acoustimass, Lifestyle and Companion bass modules due to a fire hazard, with three reports of fires caused by the products at the time of the recall.
