Consumers who purchased Dial Complete soap may be eligible to claim up to $10.80 without proof of purchase thanks to a $172,000 class action settlement over claims the product is not as effective at killing germs and bacteria as it was advertised to be.

The Class includes any resident of Canada who purchased Dial Complete soap in Canada on or before Jan. 29, 2021.

Plaintiffs in a class action lawsuit had alleged Dial Complete soap was marketed using misrepresentations that the product “Kills 99.99% of Germs.”

In addition, the plaintiffs argued the product contains more triclosan than permitted by Health Canada. Triclosan is an antibacterial agent often added to personal care products, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Dial makes a number of products, such as body washes, bar soaps, and hand soaps.

The Court has not ruled in favor of either party in this action. Both sides have agreed to the settlement in order to avoid the costs and risks associated with taking the case to trial.

The defendants, Henkel Consumer Goods Canada Inc. and The Dial Corp., deny all claims made in the class action lawsuit.

Class Members who file a valid claim will be eligible for one payment per household of $0.36 for each bottle — up to 30 bottles — of Dial Complete soap purchased in Canada on or before Jan. 29, 2021. No proof of purchase is required in order to make a claim.

If the total amount claimed exceeds the $172,000, each Class Member’s payment will be reduced proportionately.

The settlement administrator is required by law to deduct 2 percent from all settlement payments to eligible claimants living in Quebec and remit the money to the Fonds d’aide aux actions collectives.

The Dial Complete soap settlement approval hearing was held May 4, 2021.

The deadlines to opt out of or object to the settlement have passed.

The deadline to file a claim is Aug. 1, 2021.

    Hello,

I called and left a message and I also wrote to info@SoapSettlement.ca and I have not received a call back or an answer. Are you paying this settlement via PayPal? If so they do not transfer fund under $15.00 so the settlement money is stuck there!

  2. Serge MaltaIS says:

I received a settlement and it is stuck in Paypal as they do not transfer fund less than $15.00.
