Updates:

  • The settlement approval hearing has been rescheduled for Oct. 20, 2023.

  • The settlement approval hearing has been adjourned to a date to be confirmed in fall 2023.

Apple agreed to pay $6 million to resolve claims it failed to inform consumers of their legal warranty rights when they purchased AppleCare.

The settlement benefits an Apple Battery Class of consumers who purchased an iPhone since Dec. 29, 2014.

The settlement also benefits an AppleCare Class of consumers who purchased AppleCare or AppleCare+ for an Apple product between Dec. 20, 2015, and Jan. 26, 2023, who were not informed of their legal warranty at the time of purchase.

Plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit accused Apple of failing to inform consumers that their iPhone products were equipped with defective batteries that had a limited lifespan. In addition, Apple allegedly failed to properly inform consumers of their legal rights to warranty when they purchased AppleCare products.

AppleCare is Apple’s support service warranty that covers issues on Apple products such as iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches and more.

Apple hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $6 million settlement to resolve the AppleCare class action lawsuit.

Under the terms of the settlement, class members can automatically receive $25 per AppleCare contract they purchased. Class members can also file a claim for up to 50% of any additional amount they paid for AppleCare contracts.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is June 11, 2023.

The final approval hearing for the settlement, originally scheduled for June 12, 2023, has been rescheduled for Oct. 20, 2023.

No claim form is currently available for the settlement. If a judge grants the deal final approval, further instructions will be sent to class members who do not opt out.
