Whiskas Cat Food Recall Overview:

  • Who: Mars Petcare Canada issued a voluntary recall of 14 of its Whiskas brand dry cat foods.
  • Why: Mars claims the cat foods contained raw ingredients that did not meet their specifications.
  • Where: The recall applies to products sold across Canada.

Mars Petcare Canada voluntarily recalled 14 of its Whiskas brand dry cat food products on Sept 3.

The company says the limited recall was made out of an abundance of caution after it discovered the products were made with raw ingredients that were “outside of stringent internal quality specifications.”

Mars says it has not received any complaints from consumers related to the affected cat food products.

Recalled Whiskas Cat Food Products

All of the recalled products are dry cat or kitten food with either chicken, salmon, tuna, or beef flavour. The best by dates on the affected cat foods are primarily between June and August of this year.

Consumers who purchased the recalled products should discard them and stop feeding them to their pets, says Mars.

Consumers with questions about the recall can contact Mars by phone or online

Top Class Actions will continue to monitor this and other food recalls to help keep consumers and their furry friends safe.

A judge in the United States recently allowed a class action lawsuit against Mars Petcare U.S. to go ahead that alleged the company falsely advertised allergy-friendly dog food as chicken and grain free.

In April, meanwhile, a recall was issued in the United States by J.M. Smucker Co. after the company found certain bags of its Meow Mix cat food were possibly contaminated with salmonella

  1. Penny Leblanc says:

My cat Haji died from Whiskas cat food. He was perfectly healthy according to my vet and then he started not being able to poo or eat. He went on meds to make him poo and then the worms showed up Another vet visit and lots of meds did not help him at all. He suffered from June 2021 until Sept 27 2021 (my sons birthday) after he lost 11 ponds in 10 days the vet said they would have to do so many really expensive tests that he could not take so he had to be put to sleep. Haji was a therapy cat who never scratched or hurt anything ever. He was the most gentle and kind cat who knew when my son needed him. His tuxedo coat was stunning beautiful and he was a happy fat cat who shrunk to just about nothing in no time. I want this company to pay me for all the vet bills which adds up to $700.00. Being a senior citizen makes these huge vet bills out of my scope so I had to sell some things to pay these bills which were not my fault. I am also afraid to get another animal as I am older and may not live long enough to see an animal through it’s whole life time. Shame on this company for NOT warning us sooner. They knew they had a problem and did nothing about it until so many of us contacted this company. If we had known what the issue was, the treatment could have saved so many of these animals.

    Sorry, I said “kidney disease.”
Our cat died of LIVER disease.

Keep an eye out for any symptoms of this in your cat has eaten recalled Whiskas.
