  • Why: The Hello Fresh recall is due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.
  • Where: The recall is active nationwide in Canada.

Hello Fresh is recalling several cheese products included in their meal kits due to the risk of Listeria contamination.

The recall, announced on March 30, affects a range of cheese products, including Shredded Parmesan Cheese, Cheese Curds, Feta Cheese, Goat Cheese and Mozzarella Cheese. These products come in various sizes, from 28 grams to 170 grams, and have specific batch codes, such as 571607805 BB 2026 AL 02 and 152607702 BB 2026 AL 15, among others.

According to the recall notice, the potential presence of Listeria monocytogenes in these products poses a significant health risk, as this bacterium can cause severe illness, particularly in vulnerable populations, such as pregnant women, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems.

“Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick,” the Hello Fresh recall notice says.

Recall urges consumers to discard affected Hello Fresh cheese products

The recall notice advises consumers to check their homes for the affected cheese products and to refrain from consuming, using, selling or distributing them.

The products should either be discarded or returned to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Symptoms of Listeria infection can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache, and neck stiffness. In severe cases, the infection can lead to more serious health issues, including premature delivery in pregnant women or even stillbirth.

“If you think you became sick from consuming a recalled product, contact your healthcare provider,” the recall notice says.

Hello Fresh is taking steps to address the issue by removing the affected products from the marketplace and advising consumers on the necessary precautions.

Hello Fresh says it has not received any reports of illness related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the Hello Fresh recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Last October, Hello Fresh recalled ready-to-eat meals produced by FreshRealm and shipped to consumers in the United States due to potential Listeria contamination.
