Snack products health alert overview:

  • Who: The FSIS has issued a public health alert for certain ready-to-eat meat snack products that contain a recalled wafer.
  • Why: The wafers were recalled due to misbranding and an undeclared allergen.
  • Where: The health alert is active in the United States.

Food safety watchdogs have issued a public health alert for certain ready-to-eat meat snacks that contain a recalled wafer.

On Feb. 1, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued a public health alert for ready-to-eat meat snack products containing chocolate wafers.

According to the alert, the wafers were recalled in Canada as they contain an undeclared peanut residue, which is an allergen for some people.

“FSIS is issuing this public health alert to ensure that consumers are aware that this product should not be consumed,” the alert states.

Three products were produced with the recalled chocolate wafers, alert states

There are three products that may contain the recalled wafers, the FSIS said.

Those products are 2.71-oz. plastic tray packages containing “PRIVATE SELECTION SNACK BOARD SMOKED DRY CURED RED WINE SALAMI,” 3-oz. plastic tray packages containing “GREENFIELD NATURAL MEAT CO. SMOKED UNCURED PEPPERONI,” and 2.9-oz. plastic tray packages containing “PRIVATE SELECTION SNACK BOARD SMOKED DRY CURED SPICY CALABRESE SALAMI.”

The meat snack items were produced with the recalled chocolate wafers on various dates from Jan. 2, 2023, through Jan. 18, 2023.

The products subject to the public health alert bear establishment number “645” inside the Canadian mark of inspection. They were shipped to retail locations nationwide.

“Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them,” the FSIS said. “These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.”

The problem was discovered when the manufacturer of the three products was notified by their wafer supplier that the wafers were being recalled, the FSIS said.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions to the products so far, the FSIS said. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

Earlier this week, Daniele International LLC recalled more than 26 tons of sausage products as they may be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes.

Today, February 7,2023 driving at 90km/hr the panoramic sunroof front section shattered on our 2017 Hyundai Tucson purchased in 2018. No other vehicles around. Loud bang and the glass ended up on the top side of inside sun cover. We were not hurt but quite a shock. Will make phone calls to Hyundai tomorrow. We have premium plus warranty and is still in effect. Only 47,000 km. It states glass is not covered but would like to find out about class action suit
