- Where: The recall is effective in the United States and Canada.
Scholastic recalled more than 185,000 Shake Look Touch books as the pom poms on the book can detach, posing a choking hazard to young children.
The recall notice was posted July 7 to the U.S. Product Safety Commission website and applies to about 185,700 books in the United States and about 1,500 in Canada.
The Shake Look Touch book is a plush book with touch and feel components for young children, the Scholastic recall says. The recalled books have pink and green pom poms attached to them with a string.
Scholastic initiated the recall after it received two reports of the pom poms detaching. No injuries have been reported so far.
The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.
Scholastic recall says consumers should take books away from kids, cut pom poms off
Consumers should immediately take the book away from young children and cut the pom poms off the book, the Scholastic recall states.
Consumers can participate in the recall and receive a $10 gift card by registering online at www.recallrtr.com/slt, submitting a picture of the book and removed pom poms and confirming that the removed pom poms will be disposed of in the trash.
Consumers can use the book after removing and disposing of the pom poms.
The books were sold at bookstores and other stores nationwide and online at www.barnesandnoble.com, www.homegoods.com, www.booksamillion.com and other websites from Jan. 2020 through April 2022 for about $13.
Meanwhile, more than 10,000 children’s sleepwear, including nightgowns and pajama sets, sold on Amazon are subject to a recall due to flammability risk and burn hazards.
