Salad Kit Recall Overview:

  • Who: Dole Canada is recalling 13 Dole and President’s Choice brand salad kits sold nationwide.
  • What: The salad kits are being recalled due to fears of listeria contamination.
  • Where: The recall is nationwide.

President’s Choice and Dole brand salad kits sold nationwide are being recalled by Dole Canada due to possible listeria contamination. Meanwhile, the company is also recalling 72 products from shelves in the US for the same reason.

In a recall notice posted by the Canadian health watchdog Health Canada, Dole urges consumers not to eat the recalled products, saying that food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick.

“Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness,” the notice reads.

“Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk… In severe cases of illness, people may die.”

President’s Choice and Dole salad kits included in the recall are:

  • Dole Garden Salad, 340 gram pack, UPC 0 71430 01135 5
  • Dole Very Veggie, 283 gram pack, UPC 0 71430 01008 2

President’s Choice, Dole Salads Should Be Tossed, Says Recall

Dole is asking customers to check if they have recalled products in their homes, and, if so, urging them to throw them out or return them to the place of purchase.

The recall in Canada comes as the US arm of Dole, Dole Fresh Vegetables, Inc., issued a voluntary recall of 72 Dole-branded and private label packaged salads that were processed at its Springfield, Ohio, and Soledad, California, production facilities.

The recalled salads all contain iceberg lettuce that could be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, the company said.

“Consumers who still have any of these products in their refrigerators are urged not to consume the product and to discard it immediately,” Dole said in the recall.

The company is not currently facing legal action over either of the recalls, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS ! …that there are numerous food recalls every week now in Canada ! Where are the Health & Safety Food Inspection Government Agency and charging the Farms/Food Processing Centres with criminal negligence of food contamination ! There needs to be more Food Inspectors and substantial monetary fines plus total refunds to customers !
