A range of products that include emoji-shaped menorahs and lemon and ginger Sicilian sodas have been recalled across Canada in the past week due to health and safety risks posed to consumers.

The recalls cover Bridgestone tires, PC brand Lemon & Ginger Sicilian Soda, Childrensalon children’s sleepwear, Fairechild raincoats, Alasko brand corn kernels and various menorahs.

Alasko Frozen Caused Linked to 110 Salmonella Infections

Alasko brand frozen whole kernel corn has been pulled from shelves, along with other products that use the corn kernels, after it was linked to an outbreak of salmonella that has caused 110 illnesses across five provinces.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) says in a health advisory that infections have been reported in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario.

The CFIA issued food recall warnings on December 14 and 19 for the corn, which was distributed in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Quebec, and may have been distributed in other provinces and territories. This led to a secondary recall for Fraser Valley Meats brand frozen whole kernel corn and several other additional secondary recalls have been issued for products that were made using the recalled kernel corn.

The CFIA says it is continuing its food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products. It is urging consumers not to eat, use, sell or serve any of the recalled corn or products made with the recalled corn.

PC Brand Sodas May Contain Glass

Loblaw Companies Ltd. is recalling its PC brand Lemon & Ginger Sicilian Soda due to the possible presence of glass.

The recall was triggered by a consumer complaint after the consumer found glass in their soda; the company says there have been no reported injuries associated with the consumption of this product, according to the recall notice.

The sodas come in 200 ml bottles and are sold in packs of four. The UPC code is 0 60383 02157 3, and the product codes are P 2021 SE 24 and BB/MA 2023 SE 24.

Loblaw Companies is urging consumers not to consume the sodas and to throw them out or return them to the place of purchase.

Children’s Sleepwear Poses Fire Hazard

Childrensalon Ltd is recalling five different children’s sleepwear garments due to a flammability hazard posed by the products.

A recall notice says the products include the Beau Kid brand long-sleeve and pant two-piece pajama set with a pink satin bow; Fabric Flavours brand two-piece, short-sleeve top and short pajama set in the Matilda Roald Dahl print; Joha brand long-sleeved top and pant pajamas set with a three-button fastening on the chest; Mini Lunn brand two-piece, long-sleeve top and pant pajama set with race car embroidery; and My Little Pie two-piece, long-sleeved top and pant pajama set in all-over monster print. The sleepwear sets were sold between October 2020 and December 2021.

Childrensalon is urging parents to immediately stop using the children’s sleepwear and contact the company for a full refund. So far, the company says it has no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada.

Raincoat Poses Strangulation Hazard

Fairechild Inc. is recalling its Mabli Smock AW21 children’s raincoat due to a strangulation hazard posed by the drawstring.

In a recall notice, the company is telling parents to remove the drawstring from the outerwear to eliminate the hazard. It says the drawstrings can become caught on playground equipment, fences or other objects and result in strangulation, “or in the case of a vehicle, the child being dragged.” So far, there are no reports of injury caused by the raincoats, the company says.

The raincoats, sold between October 2021 and January 2022, were made for children 1- to 12-years-old and were sold in slate gray, duck yellow and brown. They have a drawstring hood and side pockets.

Consumers can either remove the drawstring or return the jacket for a full refund.

HomeSense Menorahs Can Catch Fire

HomeSense recalled four types of menorah due to a fire hazard posed by the products while holding candles. It is offering a full refund for the products.

In a recall notice, the company says its Medium Density Fibre Board (MDF) Emoji Menorah; Resin Hanukkah Llama Menorah; Resin Rainbow Menorah; and Resin Tower Menorah are all subject to the recall. It sold 307 of the menorahs in Canada between October and December 2021, the notice says.

As of January, the company has received four reports of incidents and no reports of injuries in Canada. It is urging consumers to immediately stop using the menorahs and to return them to a HomeSense store for a full refund.

Bridgestone Tires Increase Crash Risk

Bridgestone Americas and Bridgestone Canada are recalling 10,380 Firestone Transforce HT and Firestone Transforce AT tires in size LT275/70R18.

According to a recall notice, the tires were manufactured between May 2, 2021, and May 8, 2021, and supplied to Stellantis as original equipment for installation on 2021-2022 RAM 2500 and RAM 3500 vehicles. They were sold through retailers in the replacement market in the United States and Canada.

Bridgestone says the tires pose a safety risk as they may have been manufactured with an incorrect inner liner rubber compound. This could lead to belt edge separations and progress to belt detachments, potentially leading to loss of vehicle control and an increased risk of a crash.

Bridgestone says there are no known accidents or injuries involving tires subject to this recall.
