Polaris recalled some of its RZR off-road vehicles as the clutch can fracture, posing fire and injury hazards.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website published the recall Aug. 10. It applies to all model year 2021 RZR XP Turbo and RZR Turbo S vehicles.
Polaris sold about 27,300 of the affected vehicles in the United States and about 660 in Canada, the recall states.
According to the notice, the vehicles’ clutches can fracture, causing fragments to eject, posing fire and injury hazards.
Polaris received 206 reports of clutch failures, including reports of six fires, two injuries and one vehicle tip-over, the RZR recall states.
The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.
Immediately stop using recalled vehicles, Polaris RZR recall says
Polaris sold the recalled vehicles at Polaris dealers nationwide from Dec. 2019 to Sept. 2022 for between $21,000 and $32,000, the RZR recall states.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled vehicles and contact Polaris or an authorized Polaris dealer to schedule a free repair, according to the recall. The dealer will replace the primary clutch free of charge. Polaris advises consumers to stop riding the vehicles and is notifying all dealers and registered owners directly to provide more details about the repair.
In June, Polaris recalled more than 20,000 RZR Pro XP and Turbo recreational off-road vehicles due to the potential for a fuel leak, posing a fire hazard.
