Daikin sold the recall products through direct sales and heating and cooling dealers nationwide from May 2015 through Jan. 2023 for between $1,200 and $1,400.
The recalled units are beige and have a model number that begins with PMH or PMC. Amana is printed on the unit’s control cover, and the model number is on the label located below the control board.
Consumers should contact Daikin Comfort Technologies for instructions on disabling the DigiAir compressor in the recalled units to arrange for a free repair by a qualified technician, the recall states. The company is contacting all known purchasers directly.
An air conditioning and heat pump company was in the news in 2020 when Trane U.S. agreed to settle with consumers who claimed that some of the company’s Trane and American Standard brand air conditioners and heat pumps possess a defective part and the company’s attempts to fix the problem actually made it worse.
