Tesla and Anhydra Organic Dehydrated Bananas Recall Overview:

  • Who: Tesla has recalled 2,000 vehicles and Anhydra has recalled its dehydrated bananas this week.
  • Why: Two-thousand and eighty-four 2021-2022 Tesla Model 3, Model S and Model X and 2020-2022 Model Ys have a faulty heating system, and Anhydr’s Organic Dehydrated Bananas possibly contain bugs.
  • Where: The recalls are effective in Canada.

More than 2,000 Teslas with faulty heating systems and organic dried bananas that are contaminated with bugs have been recalled in Canada this week.

Transport Canada announced it was recalling 2,084 2021-2022 Tesla Model 3, Model S and Model X and 2020-2022 Model Ys due to the electric vehicles suffering from a loss of cabin heating in cold temperatures. According to the recall notice, if the vehicles suffer the loss of heating, the windshield defrost and defog system may not work properly.

“A defrost or defog system that does not work properly could make it difficult to see through the windshield. Reduced visibility could increase the risk of a crash,” the notice reads. It adds that the problem only affects vehicles with firmware release 2021.44 through 2021.44.30.6.

The recall comes just days after the U.S’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced a recall of 26,681 the same Tesla vehicles for the same issue. In the recall notice, NHTSA said the issue was caused by a software error that can cause a valve in the heat pump to open unintentionally and trap the refrigerant inside the evaporator, resulting in decreased defrosting performance.

Transport Canada says Tesla will email a notice to vehicle owners and provide an over-the-air firmware update to fix the problem.

According to Inside EVs, despite Tesla saying the software update can fix the problem, it has proven largely unsuccessful for drivers. The publication says Transport Canada had received 171 complaints about related issues as of Feb. 1, 2022, all of which appear to have come from Model Y and Model 3 owners.

Organic Dehydrated Bananas Contain Insects

In a more skin-crawling product recall, Anhydra has recalled its Organic Dehydrated Bananas due to the presence of insects.

According to a recall notice posted by Health Canada, the company is urging consumers not to eat the dried bananas due to the creepy crawlies, and it is recalling 125-gram, 1-kilogram, and 10-kilogram bags of the product.

The recall notice says the dehydrated bananas were only sold in Quebec.

Anhydra isn’t the only company in Canada that has had to pull dried bananas off the shelves after insects were found inside. In January, Miski Organics had to recall its Organic Dried Banana Slices, sold in Ontario and Quebec, for the same reason.
