BRP recall overview: 

  • Who: BRP US is recalling 14,555 of its 2022 and 2023 Can-Am Commander series, Defender series, Maverick Trail series side-by-side vehicles, along with 2,285 in Canada. 
  • Why: The maintenance schedules in the operator’s guide contains incorrect information that could lead the clutch to fail.
  • Where: The side-by-side vehicle recall is valid in the United States and Canada.

BRP US is recalling 14,555 of its 2022 and 2023 Can-Am side-by-side vehicles due to incorrect information in the operators manual.

The recall also includes 2,285 in Canada. The recall includes the Commander series, Defender series, Maverick Trail series equipped with an HD7 or 700 engines side-by-side vehicles.

The side-by-side vehicle recall applies to all colors of the vehicles. The incorrect information on maintenance can lead to clutch failure, including fragments to be ejected from the vehicle, according to the recall. That can lead to a risk of serious injuries.

No injuries reported from side-by-side vehicle recall, BRP says

BRP says it has not received any reports of injury related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

The vehicles were sold BRP Can-Am authorized dealers nationwide from October 2021 through October 2023 for between $13,000 and $36,000.

Polaris issued an October recall for around 2,500 model year 2023 and 2024 off-road vehicles over concerns they may be equipped with an improperly routed brake line that could contact the front wheels while a vehicle is in operation, resulting in brake line damage and brake loss.
