TJX recall overview:

  • Who: Retailer TJX recalled about 5,000 Novogratz brand Outdoor Metal Hanging Chairs.
  • Why: The company has had 22 reports of the chairs tipping or falling over, resulting in 16 injuries.
  • Where: The recall is active in the United States and Canada.

Retailer TJX recalled about 5,000 Novogratz brand outdoor metal hanging chairs after 16 people were injured.

The recall was posted Sept. 1 on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website.

It applies to about 5,000 Novogratz brand outdoor metal hanging chairs sold in the United States and about 194 sold in Canada.

The TJX recall involves outdoor metal hanging chairs sold in white, gray, green and yellow along with a cushion for seating.

The hanging chair can tip or fall over or the metal hook or chain suspending the chair can break when a consumer is seated in the chair, posing a fall hazard, the company says.

TJX recall cites 22 reports of chairs tipping over

So far, THX has received 22 reports of the chairs tipping, falling over or breaking at the hook or chain, resulting in 16 injuries, including bruises and a mild concussion.

“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled chairs and return them to any HomeGoods, Homesense or HomeGoods/T.J. Maxx or Marshalls combination stores for their choice of either a full refund or store credit of equivalent value,” the TJX recall states.

The product was sold in HomeGoods and Homesense stores and HomeGoods/T.J. Maxx or Marshalls combination stores nationwide from March 2021 through May 2022 for between $300 and $330.

The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits

In June, TJX issued a recall for around 30,600 of its Tommy Bahama and Martha Stewart brand Nest Swing Egg Chairs over concerns they can tip over or collapse when a consumer is seated in them.

And in related news, T.J. Maxx agreed to pay a $13 million fine to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission to resolve claims it continued to sell products, including the Fisher-Price Rock ‘n Play Sleeper, after they had been recalled.
