Paw Patrol Drinking Bottles, OLAIAN Kids’ Surf Ponchos Recalled Over Fire, Choking Hazards

• Who: OLAIAN is recalling kids’ surf ponchos, and Dollarama is recalling Paw Patrol plastic drinking bottles.
• Why: The ponchos do not meet flammability requirements, and the drink bottles pose a choking hazard.
• Where: The recalls are nationwide.

A Paw Patrol drinking bottle poses a choking hazard, and a childrens’ surf poncho is not safe near flames, according to two new recalls issued for kids’ products in Canada this week.

On March 30, the Canadian government announced that 58,000 Paw Patrol plastic drinking bottles were being recalled across the nation after a reported incident with the product. 

While no injuries were reported, Dollarama said that it was recalling all of its 16 oz. Paw Patrol drink bottles as the removable tip of the cap on certain bottles may come loose if firmly pulled on, posing a choking hazard. 

The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

The bottle comes in four colours (red, blue, purple and pink) and has a removable cap that comes in blue, teal, red or pink. The affected products were sold from August 2021 to March 2022.

The bottles can be identified by the sticker at the bottom of the bottle displaying the following information: Code: 10-3025349; UPC: 00667888142255.

“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bottles with affected caps and return them to the stores where they purchased them for a refund,” the recall states.

OLAIAN Kids’ Surf Ponchos Recalled for Not Meeting Flammability Requirements

Meanwhile, 2,657 OLAIAN brand kids’ ponchos are being recalled by Decathlon Canada, Inc., as they do not meet the flammability requirements for children’s sleepwear.

“Loose-fitting children’s sleepwear can contact ignition sources, such as stove elements, candles and matches, more readily than tight-fitting sleepwear, and, once ignited, will burn rapidly, potentially resulting in severe burns to large areas of the child’s body,” the recall states. 

The ponchos were sold in five different colours and styles, which can be seen here. 

As of Mar. 7, the company has had no reported incidents in relation to the ponchos, it said. 

The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled kid’s ponchos and contact the nearest point of sale for a refund,” the recall states.

Decathlon is also recalling 124 KIPRUN GPS 550 wrist watches after the watches were found to pose a fire and burn hazard to users. According to a recall notice posted by Healthy Canadians, the battery in the watches may overheat during charging or while in use and may cause burns or present a fire risk. Luckily, Decathlon has not received any reports of injuries to date.
