  • Why: The company recalled the products after multiple reports of overheating, including some reports of smoke and melting.
  • Where: The products were sold in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Hyper Products recalled more than 30,000 HyperJuice branded battery packs and stackable chargers after multiple reports of the products overheating, including some reports of smoke and melting.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (UPSC) announced the two recalls on its website Sept. 29.

HyperJuice battery packs recalled

More than 13,800 HyperJuice 130W USB-C Battery Packs are being recalled in the United States, Canada and Mexico as the battery pack can overheat while charging, posing a fire hazard to consumers, the recall notice states.

The company sold about 13,700 of the products in the United States, 151 in Canada and about seven in Mexico.

The recall involves Hyper Products HyperJuice 130W USB-C Battery Pack and Kits, model number HJ307.

The recall comes after Hyper Products received two reports of the battery pack overheating, resulting in smoke, melting and property damage. No injuries have been reported so far, the company said.

“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled HyperJuice 130W USB-C Battery Packs,” the recall states. Affected consumers should contact Hyper Products for a store credit for the purchase price of the product.

The battery packs were sold at B&H Photo Video stores in New York and at multiple stores online Oct. 2018 through April 2022 for between $122 and $158.

HyperJuice chargers recalled due to overheating

Meanwhile, Hyper Products also recalled more than 18,000 HyperJuice Stackable GaN USB-C Chargers because the chargers can overheat, posing a fire hazard to consumers.

Hyper Products received seven reports of the charger overheating, resulting in damage to the charging units, according to the HyperJuice recall. No injuries have been reported so far.

The company sold about 18,200 chargers in the United States, 54 in Canada and about four in Mexico.

The recall affects HyperJuice Stackable GaN 65W and 100W USB-C chargers, model numbers HJ414 and HJ417.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled products and can contact the company for a store credit for the amount of the purchase price for the 65W and the 100W chargers, according to the HyperJuice recall notice.

It sold the chargers at B&H Photo Video stores in New York and at retailers online from Oct. 2020 through August 2022 for between $45 and $84.

The company is not currently facing legal action over the recalls, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

In similar recall news, last year, DEWALT recalled more than 301,000 wireless earphones after dozens of reports of the products overheating, bursting into flames and even burning customers.
