Mrs. Freshley’s, Tastykake recall overview:

  • Who: Flowers Foods Inc voluntarily recalled Tastykake and Mrs. Freshley’s glazed pies.
  • Why: The pies contain undeclared soy.
  • Where: The Flower Foods recall is active in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

Flowers Foods Inc recalled its Tastykake and Mrs. Freshley’s glazed pies in three countries due to the fact they contain undeclared soy.

“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product,” the Mrs. Freshly’s and Tastykake recall states.

The Mrs. Freshley’s and Tastykake recall was posted Oct. 7 on the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) website and applies to certain Tastykake and Mrs. Freshley’s glazed pies sold in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The pies were distributed from Sept. 26 through Oct. 6, 2022, to retail and vending customers throughout the three countries.

The packages have either an “Enjoy By” date of 10/28/2022 through 11/07/2022 and/or product codes 307 2263 through 307 2274 printed on the front of the packages. The UPC codes are printed on the back of the packages.

Mrs. Freshley’s, Tastykake recall says pies contain soy not listed on product label

Flowers Foods initiated the recall after discovering that certain pies were made with an ingredient containing soy, which is not listed on the product label, the Tastykake and Mrs. Freshley’s recall states.

No related illnesses or incidents have been reported so far, the company says.

“People allergic to soy should not consume products if the ‘Enjoy By’ dates, UPC and/or Product Codes below are printed on the package,” the Mrs. Freshley’s and Tastykake recall says. “Affected products should be discarded or may be returned to the place of purchase for a full refund.”

The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

Last year, Flower Foods issued a recall for a number of bakery products that may have contained tiny fragments of metal mesh wire.
