Vornado steamer recall overview:

  • Who: Vornado recalled around 2 million Vornado, Steamfast and Sharper Image brand handheld garment steamers.
  • Why: The Vornado steamer recall was initiated because the handheld garment steamers could expel water from their steam nozzle while heating or during use, posing a serious burn hazard.
  • Where: The recall impacts consumers in the US and Canada.

A Vornado recall was issued for 2 million Vornado, Steamfast and Sharper Image handheld garment steamers over concerns they can expel hot water from their steam nozzle while being heated or during use, posing a serious burn hazard.

The recall, which includes 13,000 units sold in Canada, involves Steamfast handheld garment steamers with the model numbers SF-425, SF-435, SF-440, SF-445 and SF-447, Vornado steamers with the model number VS-410 and Sharper Image steamers with model number SI-428.

The Vornado steamer recall advises consumers to immediately stop using the recalled handheld garment steamers and to contact Vornado to receive either a full refund or a free replacement product, depending on the model.

Vornado recall: 122 reports of hot water spraying or spitting from recalled steamers

Vornado has received 122 reports of hot water spraying or spitting from the steam nozzles of the recalled handheld garment steamers, including 23 reports of burn injuries, according to the Vornado recall.

The recalled handheld garment steamers were sold at Walmart, Bed Bath & Beyond and other retail stores nationwide as well as online from July 2009 through January 2024 for between $14 and $35.

In December, Vornado expanded a separate steam iron recall to include an additional 1.75 million Steamfast Home and Away Travel steam irons in the US and an additional 9,000 in Canada. That recall was initiated because the steam irons’ power cords could become damaged near the cord bushing, causing the cord to overheat and pose fire, burn and shock hazards.
