Home Design bed recall overview:

  • Who: Home Design has recalled hundreds of thousands of upholstered beds.
  • Why: The beds can break, sag or collapse and lead to a fall or injury risk.
  • Where: The Home Design recall is valid in the United States and Canada.

Home Design has recalled more than 580,000 beds sold across the United States and Canada due to concerns they can break, sag or collapse, leading to a fall or injury risk.

The recall covers 527,177 upholstered low-profile standard and platform beds sold in the U.S., plus an additional 55,847 beds sold in Canada.

The Home Design bed recall covers part numbers 80002, 80032, 80053, 80055 and 80071. The numbers are printed on the installation manual and frame packaging. The frames include a law label on the back of the headboard.

The bed frames were sold at Wayfair, Walmart.com, and Overstock.com between July 2018 and November 2023 for $100 to $300.

128 reports of broken beds, 36 reported injuries due to bed recall

Home Design says it has received 128 reports of beds breaking or sagging, along with 36 reports of injury related to the recall as of Jan. 18. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

The Home Design recall notice advises customers to immediately stop using the beds and contact the company for a free replacement of slats and side rails.

Customers should send an image of the bed and the law label, or proof of purchase, to recall@homedesign-us.com for the replacement. Home Design can be reached at 833-383-2967 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET Monday through Friday.

J Grubbs Designs issued a late December recall for 12,275 Windsor Queen Xtrabed Mobile Murphy Beds due to a tip-over risk, and a risk of the beds breaking when opened from the front.
