Toyota Tundra Recall Overview:

  • Who: Transport Canada issued a recall for certain model year 2018-21 Toyota Tundra vehicles.
  • Why: Halogen headlights installed in certain Toyota Tundra vehicles are prone to lighting loss and pose a fire risk when left on a high beam setting while the vehicle is prone or driving at slow speeds.
  • Where: The Toyota Tundra recall affects vehicles across Canada.

Transport Canada issued a recall earlier this month for certain model year 2018-21 Toyota Tundra trucks outfitted with halogen headlights it says may be prone to overheating.

The recall involves approximately 6,380 vehicles outfitted with halogen headlights that Toyota says pose a potential fire risk and are prone to lighting loss.

Faulty headlight circuits are to blame for the issue, according to the recall, which says problems can occur when headlights are switched to a high beam setting for a prolonged period of time while the vehicle is parked or driving at slow speeds.

Toyota says it will contact drivers by Nov. 1 to provide further instructions for what repairs are needed, including possible bulb and bulb connector replacement and a modification of the vehicles’ engine wire harness.

Customers who believe their Toyota Tundra may be affected can check online by entering their vehicle’s identification number or by contacting the Toyota Customer Interaction Centre by phone at 1-888-TOYOTA-8

Toyota faced a class action lawsuit earlier this year after a British Columbia man alleged the company installed certain vehicles with defective fuel pumps.

Transport Canada issued a separate recall last year for Hyundai vehicles they say posed a fire risk due to brake fluid leaks that could lead to short circuiting

  1. Ada says:

I absolutely agree to file an lawsuit to Toyota Canada, as our 2009 RAV4 was burned down to frame on the 27 of Dec, during the icy cold Christmas time. The fire department investigators said it was due to the over – heated block heater cord And today we have received a letter from Toyota Canada for the block heater recall. Now my RAV4 was burnt down, Toyota Canada should pay me back my lost !!!

  2. Lester says:

I wonder if there is some class sue about the way Toyota is “solving” an issue with some block heaters. My Tundra 2018 was taken “care” of at a dealer, and their solution was to stick some plastic/rubber crap in the block heater connector (so you cannot plug the cable) and cut the internal cable (under the hood). This was done without telling me and I only figured it out the next day when I tried to connect my truck. I took it back to the dealer and then they told me. On top of that , this was done on December 28th, while Alberta was, and still is, under an intense cold spell. Long story short, I’ve been unable to start my truck for several days now. Called the dealer and Toyota Canada and they say they can’t do anything for me. What a disgrace!
