Sportsman All-Terrain vehicles recall overview:

  • Who: Polaris recalled all of its Sportsman All-Terrain Vehicles.
  • Why: The vehicles can crash and catch fire.
  • Where: The recall is active in the United States and Canada.

Polaris recalled more than 93,000 of its Sportsman All-Terrain Vehicles as the vehicles can catch fire and crash.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website posted the recall March 16. It applies to model years 2021-2023 Sportsman 450 and 570 All-Terrain Vehicles.

According to the Sportsman recall, an improperly assembled wiring harness can contact the brake line and vehicle frame during use. This can result in a loss of the use of the front brakes and potential fire, also posing a crash hazard, the company says.

So far, the company received five reports of fire and three reports of damaged wires. Of the five reports of fire, two reports also indicated a loss of the front brake function, the All-Terrain Vehicles recall states.

The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

Immediately stop using vehicles, contact dealer for repair, Sportsman recall says

About 80,000 of the affected ATVs were sold in the United States, and 3,900 were sold in Canada.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled ATVs and contact a Polaris dealer to schedule a free repair.

Polaris notified consumers to stop riding the vehicles and is contacting registered owners directly to provide more details about the repair, it says.

The affected vehicles were sold at Polaris dealers nationwide from May 2019 through Nov. 2022 for between $6,600 and $11,600.

The Sportsman All-Terrain Vehicles recall involves certain VINs of model years 2021-2023 Sportsman 450 and 570 vehicles. The VIN is located on the vehicle’s left rear frame. Consumers can enter their VIN online to check for the recall.

Last year, Polaris, Honda and Kubota all announced recalls for certain of their off-road, all-terrain and utility vehicles, respectively.
