Patagonia recall overview:

  • Who: Patagonia recalled its Infant Capilene Midweight Base Layer Sets.
  • Why: The sets pose a choking hazard due to snaps on the sets that can detach.
  • Where: The recall is active in the United States and Canada.

Patagonia recalled more than 8,200 of its Infant Capilene Midweight Base Layer Sets as they pose a choking hazard to babies.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website published the recall March 2. It applies to Patagonia Infant Capilene Midweight Base Layer Sets sold in sizes 0 months through 24 months with style number 60910.

According to the Patagonia recall, the snaps in the bodysuit of the recalled base layer sets can detach, posing a choking hazard if infants put them in their mouths.

So far, Patagonia received one report of a snap detaching from the shoulder of the bodysuit and mouthed by a baby, the recall states.

The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

Consumers should immediately stop using the product, Patagonia recall says

About 8,000 of the sets were sold in the United States and about 217 were sold in Canada, the recall states.

They were sold at Patagonia, REI and other stores nationwide and online at www.patagonia.com, www.rei.com, www.backcountry.com and other websites from Aug. 2021 through Jan. 2023 for about $55.

Each set consists of a knitted polyester long-sleeved bodysuit with snaps at the left shoulder and at the crotch and a pair of matching knitted polyester pants with an elastic waistband. They were sold in five designs: pink and white with “My Planet,” pink hearts and pink trim; blue with “Patagonia” and “Fun Hogs”; pink with small graphics; pink with “Patagonia Mountain Kids” and gray and black with “Patagonia Mountain Kids.”

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Patagonia Infant Capilene Midweight Base Layer Sets and contact Patagonia for a full refund, the company says. Patagonia will provide consumers with prepaid labels to return the recalled product, and a full refund upon receipt of the product.

Meanwhile, Skip Hop, Fisher-Price, Kids2, WeeSprout and Selfie Craft recently initiated or re-announced recalls involving children’s products or clothing. Click here for more information.
