Depo-Provera Bone Loss Class Action Overview:

  • Who: Canada residents who received four Depo-Provera injections between April 1997 and June 2006 and suffered bone density loss before May 31, 2010.
  • Why: Pfizer allegedly failed to disclose certain risks associated with the birth-control drug.
  • Where: Canada.

Consumers who received injections of the birth-control drug Depo-Provera and suffered declines in bone density may be eligible to take part in a $2.2 million class action lawsuit settlement.

Claims forms will be due by March 1, 2022; however, the claims period has not yet opened.

Class Members may subscribe on the settlement website to receive an email notification when the claim form becomes available.

The Class consists of anyone living in Canada who took Depo-Provera before May 31, 2010, claims to have suffered a loss of bone mineral density (osteopenia or osteoporosis) before that date, and was living in Canada at the time they took the drug.

To be eligible for compensation, the Class Member must have taken four consecutive, uninterrupted injections of Depo-Provera at least three months apart. The first injection must have taken place after April 2, 1997, and the last injection must have taken place before June 30, 2006.

Class Members must have been diagnosed with bone mineral density loss before May 31, 2010, and within 30 months of the last use of Depo-Provera. They also must not suffer from certain risk factors.

The settlement resolves three lawsuits that had accused Depo-Provera maker Pfizer of misrepresenting the drug’s potential risks, such as the potential for an irreversible decline in bone mineral density.

Class Members will receive a pro rata share of the value of all valid claims as calculated by the settlement administrator.

An approval hearing in the case is scheduled for Oct. 26, 2021.

I have taken the depo shot since after my children were born. The first year was in 09 I’ve used it over a period of over 11 years. In 2020 my knee snapped effortlessly tore all my ligaments. I haven’t been the same since, I am age 34. No doctors or anyone ever told me any side effects or warnings about osteoporosis. I feel like this information have been told before doctors started injecting our bodies with this poison.

I was on the DEPO Shot for 9 years. I. Currently on the pill, I have problems with my right hip/the muscle where I would get the shot, now flares up and hurts so bad sometimes that I can not even stand up straight! I’m furious, I am 35 years old and I never expected to have this much pain after being on the DEPO shot

Was on Depo for years starting back in the late 90s through 2012. I’m 49 and was just diagnosed with Osteoporosis of the spine (classified as high risk for fracture). This is unbelievable to me. Is there no recourse against Pfizer because of prior lawsuit? What about all these women that are now suffering and will continue to suffer the ill-effects caused by Depo Provera? Are we all just out of luck?

  5. April M Bushong says:

Had Depo from 00 to 05 almost every time in right hip now using cane at 44 to help walk and relieve pain

  6. Janice Ermine says:

I was on DEPO for approximately 8 years 2004-2010, A DR told me after 6 years that I should be taking vitamin C & D while on DEPO, so I did. However, I started noticing that my sex drive was deteriorating and wrote it off due to hormones. One day watching TV came across a documentary about DEPO and pedophiles, apparently they inject pedophiles with DEPO every month to stop their sexual urges!!! I never went back for another dose ever again!! My main side affect from being on DEPO is bone loss of my teeth, I have had dental issues for years! I wish I knew about this class action sooner I feel so angry that many of us will not be compensated for the suffering that we must endure!

Who can we contact about compensation because this shot or should I say poison has destroyed my life and these people need to be held accountable for this. I lost all my teeth in the front and I was diagnosed with arthritis all over my body at 30 something years old. I also have loss bone density, have TMJ disorder and a ton of other health problems I never had until getting in this poison called Depo Provera. Someone please help me!!! I talked to lawyers before now I am hearing of a class action that I was not aware of that was due in March but something else will have to be done because I refuse to let these people get away with destroying my quality of life! No way. I will fight to get my compensation. Anyone have any suggestions here in this chat?
