Update:

  • The claim deadline has been extended to June 27, 2024.
  • Claimants who received a deficiency notice dated Oct. 13, 2023, will have until June 27, 2024, to cure their claims.

Purdue Pharma agreed to pay $20 million as part of a settlement to resolve claims it negligently released OxyContin in Canadian markets, resulting in overdoses and addiction.

The settlement benefits Canadians who were prescribed and ingested OxyContin and/or OxyNEO between Jan. 1, 1996, and Feb. 28, 2017, or their surviving family members.

According to several class action lawsuits against Purdue, the pharmaceutical company failed to disclose the addictive nature of its OxyContin and OxyNEO products. As a result, Canadians allegedly became addicted to the opioid medications and, in some cases, experienced deadly overdoses.

Purdue Pharma is a pharmaceutical manufacturer that sells products such as opioids, opioid overdose reversal drugs and more.

Purdue hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $20 million settlement to resolve the OxyContin class action lawsuits.

Under the terms of the settlement, class members can receive a cash payment based on their experience with OxyContin and OxyNEO, including any prescription details, addiction and other damages resulting from the medications.

Family members who can prove a relation to an affected individual may also be eligible for payments. Exact payments amount will vary depending on the number of valid claims filed and the “points” assigned to each case.

There is no objection or exclusion deadline listed on the settlement website.

A judge granted the OxyContin settlement final approval Feb. 6, 2023.

In order to receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by the extended deadline of June 27, 2024.
