Several lots of Atlas Growers Ltd.’s dried cannabis pre-rolled joints have been recalled after the discovery of yeast, mould, and bacteria.
The recalled joints include Natural History Zour Apples Full Flower Pre-Rolls and Atlas Growers Zour Apples Full Flower Pre-Rolls. Lots P200027, P200044 and P210008, packaged between Nov. 27, 2020 and Jan 11, 2021 are included in the recall.
The contaminated lots were sold in Alberta, Northwest Territories, Yukon at authorized dealers between Dec. 1, 2020 and July 7, 2021. In addition, the recalled Atlas Growers joints were also distributed to clients for medical purposes by Medical Cannabis by Shoppers Drug Mart, Inc, says Health Canada in its notice issued last week.
More than 11,000 units of the recalled pre-rolled joints were sold, says Atlas Growers.
“The affected product may contain yeast, mould and bacteria. In certain individuals, exposure to yeast, mould and bacteria can result in allergic symptoms such as sneezing, coughing, wheezing, runny nose or nasal congestion, and watery eyes or itchy eyes,” warns the agency’s recall notice.
Consumers should stop using the recalled Atlas Growers pre-rolled joints, warns Health Canada. The product can be returned to the place of purchase or disposed.
Health Canada notes in its recall warning that no adverse events have been reported to Atlas Growers yet.
“The use of, or exposure to a product containing yeast, mould and bacteria may cause temporary adverse health consequences, where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote,” says the notice.
Top Class Actions will continue to monitor this and other recalls in the interest of consumer safety.
