Samsung Oven Fire No Replacement Overview:

  • Who: A man in Nova Scotia is raising the alarm about a Samsung oven.
  • What: The man says his oven exploded during Thanksgiving, and Samsung has offered no adequate solution to his lost oven. 
  • Where: Halifax, Nova Scotia.

A Nova Scotia man’s Thanksgiving dinner turned dangerous this October when his Samsung oven “blew up,” leaving him fearing for his family’s safety.

Now, Rodney Parson says Samsung is refusing to replace the oven, instead offering to order parts to fix the stove technicians say is beyond repair, or to give a small credit towards a new oven, CBC reports.

“They should do something,” Parsons said. “I mean, our house could have burned to the ground.”

Parsons said he was at work Oct. 10 when his daughter called in a panic to say the oven had blown up. He called the fire department, and a fire technician later reported that the cause was a malfunction in the oven. 

Parsons said he purchased his oven in 2016 for $1,000. 

When he contacted Samsung about the exploded oven, he was offered a $350 credit towards a new oven, or parts to fix his current oven. He told CBC he believes fixing the oven is a dangerous option.

Samsung is already the subject of a class action lawsuit in the United States over its stoves, with Parsons’ model one of the products included in the lawsuit lodged December 2020.

That class action alleges heat sensors in 87 models of Samsung electric and gas ovens contain a serious safety defect that causes them to misread temperatures, resulting in ovens that are not hot or far too hot.

In that case, another Thanksgiving dinner was ruined for another reason — the plaintiff’s Samsung oven allegedly failed to cook the turkey on Thanksgiving of that year, forcing her to purchase a pre-cooked one on the holiday.

Parsons told CBC he is looking to get a lawyer to represent his case against Samsung in Canada.

“Other people should be aware of these products…. If they’ve got a malfunction in some of these products, they should fix it,” said Parsons.

“They shouldn’t keep selling them. Something could happen to somebody else.”

A spokesperson for Samsung told CBC the company encourages customers to call if they have questions about its products.

“At Samsung, we stand behind our products and strive to ensure customer satisfaction. We have followed up with Mr. Parsons to learn more about his experience.”

    It seems like its the same old story except now Samsung doesn’t even have control boards. My oven was purchased in 2019 and it has never worked correctly. Fan always stays turned on, never heats past 175 F. Forget about opening the door and ask it to reheat. We have had no oven for over 4 months now and waiting for a control board which will cost be $400 to repair without any guarantee. I have no problem throwing in my hat for the lawsuit.

    I have just booked my third repair on my Samsung oven – all for same problem. Until now I did not know anything about these problems, and thought it was just my stove. I’ve had a temperature sensor replaced, and a control panel replaced, and nothing works for more than a month or two. Thank goodness I have an extended warranty. However, in view of this information it looks like I will have to do battle for a replacement stove from the store where I bought it….and not another Samsung.
    I understand there is a class action suit underway in the US, but Canadians cannot participate. Does anybody know if any similar action is being taken in Canada – or have you any suggestions?

    I purchased a Samsung black stainless double oven range, three years ago, shortly after the first year the oven became super hot and smoke was pouring out, everything was burnt, and black, it smelled like 🔥 g plastic 10 minutes into the cooking. Other times it would take 3 hrs to cook something that should cook in one hour. I unplugged it for 20 minutes, and used it again but this kept happening, so I havn’t used the oven for 2 years. we took it to be repaired, and we’re charged $100 to diagnostics and were told it would cost $600 for the part plus labor with no guarantees. We have been just using a countertop oven when necessary I had been so excited to finally have nice matching black stainless steel appliances, the Samsung was a really nice looking range with all the bells and whistles, the nicest oven I have ever owned. Unfortunately Samsung was a very bad investment and very disheartening, to pay that much money for an appliance that Samsung knew was totally unsafe. I could sell it, knowing that this will happen to the new buyer, but unlike Samsung, I have a conscience, and will not be responsible for someone possibly getting hurt, just to make a buck! our landfills will be soon be full of these useless ranges. I have just purchased a Bosch induction range, it was a final clearance, floor model, but still quite expensive. During Harvest and seeding and cattle round-up, I need an appliance I can trust. I will never purchase anything made by Samsung again

    I have a 2018 Samsung slide in gas range and it has temperature problems. Samsung will only cover parts not labor to fix it. It is included in Us lawsuit. We need a Canadian lawsuit as well.

    Bought a new Samsung gas range in 2014 and the gas oven often has problems heating over 175 degrees. The model I have is included in the list of Samsung models in the USA class action against Samsung for the very same reasons. Now im very worried that it will not heat up properly or maybe eventually blow up every time I use my range.

    Just had the same thing happen to me yesterday! My Samsung caught on fire in the back and I had to throw fire inside the back part of it. I had my 12 week and 7 year old in the house. Grab them ran out of the house and called 911.

    Just purchased an electric Samsung stove in November 2021 and the 4 times I used the oven, the smoke alarm came on! Terrifying! The stove was full of smoke and stunk up the house. Which led me to research to see if others experienced similar issues which lead me to this post – Omg terrified I will call customer service immediately. Model Ne63T87G black stainless
