Nygard Sex Assault Overview:

  • Who: Disgraced fashion mogul Peter Nygard has been charged with nine sex crimes by Toronto police.
  • Why: Nygard is accused of committing sex crimes against women as young as 14 going back to the late 1970s.
  • Where: The new charges were filed in Toronto. Nygard is currently in custody in Manitoba while awaiting extradition to the United States.

Toronto police filed nine sexual assault charges against disgraced Finnish-Canadian fashion mogul Peter Nygard last week.

Nygard is currently in custody in Manitoba awaiting extradition to the US to face sex crime charges filed in New York, reports BBC News

The new charges allege sex crimes against six women — one who was a minor at the time of the alleged assault —  and include accusations of sexual assault and forcible confinement

Nygard was arrested in Winnipeg last year on a US warrant for sex trafficking and racketeering filed in a federal court in the southern district of New York, reports VICE. The 80-year-old is accused of drugging and raping multiple women and girls — some as young as 14 year old.

The new charges filed against Nygard include assaults that stem all the way back to 1987 and as recent as the mid-2000s.

Nygard has been awaiting extradition to the US since being denied bail in February, according to VICE, which reports he signed a form consenting to his extradition to the US last week.

Peter Nygard Faces Class Action Lawsuit Alleging Decades Long Sex Trafficking Scheme

Nygard is also facing a class action lawsuit composed of nearly 100 persons seeking damages for alleged sex crimes going back to the 1970s.

Nygard has been accused of committing assaults in Winnipeg, Toronto, New York, Los Angeles, and at his property in the Bahamas, reports VICE.

Young girls were allegedly enticed to go to Nygard’s Bahamas property — called Nygard Cay — with the promise of modelling work and manicures before being assaulted.

In some instances, women say they were not allowed to leave the compound without the fashion moguls permission while some claim they had their passports taken away until they had sex with Nygard.

Nygard is accused of covering his tracks by forcing guests on his property to sign a non-disclosure agreement.
