Consumers headed out to enjoy the summer should be aware of what they put on their kid’s feet. Two types of Joe Fresh-brand kids and toddler sandals were recently recalled by the manufacturer after receiving reports of a defective seam.

The front strap on Joe Fresh Toddler Boy and Kid Boy Functional Sandals in Khaki Green may detach due to the defect. The loose strap can pose a tripping and choking hazard warns Health Canada’s recall notice issued Thursday.

“As of June 2021, the company has received one report of a defective sandal in Canada, and one report of injury as a result of the defective sandal,” states the notice.

The Joe Fresh kids and toddler sandal recall involves product style numbers S0BT007402 and S0BK007368. More than 2,800 pairs were sold in Canada between March 23, 2020, and June 25, 2021.

The recalled sandals were made in China and distributed by Loblaws Companies Limited. They were sold at several different Loblaw banner stores throughout Canada, including Joe Fresh, Real Canadian Superstore, nofrills, Your Independent Grocer, Real Canadian Wholesale Club, and on JoeFresh.com.

“All potentially affected product has been removed from store shelves and online. We are asking customers to return product to any store where Joe Fresh apparel is sold for a full refund, with or without the receipt,” Loblaw says in a statement issued after the recall. “We apologize for any concern or inconvenience this recall may have caused. The health and safety of our customers and their children is our top priority.”

Consumers are wanted to stop using the sandals and return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

“Please note that the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, sold or even given away in Canada,” says Health Canada’s website.

Top Class Actions will monitor this and other product recalls in the interest of consumer safety.
