Eco-Feu recall overview:

  • Who: Eco-Feu is recalling Vision I portable fire pots.
  • Why: The recall is due to a fire hazard associated with improper labelling.
  • Where: The recall is active in Canada.

Eco-Feu is recalling its Vision I portable fire pots, citing potential fire hazards due to inadequate labelling. The Eco-Feu portable fire pots, sold in Canada, do not meet the labelling requirements mandated by the Consumer Chemicals and Containers Regulations 2001 under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act.

The recall, announced on Feb. 2, includes Vision I portable fire pots, which are alcohol-fuelled fireplaces designed for both indoor and outdoor use.

These products are available in Matte Black and Stainless Steel, with universal product codes 6 29041 00094 2 and 6 28041 00093 5, respectively. The fire pots are rectangular, measuring 28 3/4″ x 10 1/4″ x 16 11/16″, and feature tempered safety glass panels.

Eco-Feu is taking steps to address the issue by urging consumers to discontinue use of the affected portable fire pots. Health Canada reminds consumers that recalled products should not be redistributed, sold or given away.

Eco-Feu issues warning for potential flame jetting incidents

According to the Eco-Feu recall, the lack of proper labelling and hazard information could lead to flame jetting incidents, which occur when fuel vapors ignite unexpectedly during refuelling.

“Flame jetting occurs very quickly, so the user and/or bystanders are unable to react quickly enough to move away from an incoming flame jet,” the recall notice states.

The recall notice emphasizes the dangers of flame jetting, which can happen if the fire pot is refuelled while still burning or if the flame is extinguished but the device remains hot. This poses a significant risk of serious injury or even death to users and bystanders.

Consumers can contact Eco-Feu at 1 866 435-1772, available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST, or via email at [email protected].

Eco-Feu says it has not received any reports of injury related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the Eco-Feu recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
