J & D Brush Recalls Bio Ionic Hair Curling Irons Due to Burn Hazard

J & D Brush Co., LLC is recalling thousands of its Bio Ionic One-Inch-Long Barrel Curling Irons due to a defect that may cause the barrel to detach, potentially leading to burns.

The curling iron recall affects approximately 357,000 units in the United States and 3,000 units in Canada.

Announced Oct. 23, the recall includes the Bio Ionic curling iron model number LXT-CL-1.0, with date codes ranging from 0722 to 1223. The curling irons feature a black handle and barrel, with the model number located on the rating label on the handle. 

The curling iron’s barrel “can snap and detach, posing a burn hazard to consumers,” the recall notice says.

The Bio Ionic curling irons were available for purchase from August 2022 through July 2024 at various retailers, including Amazon, Salon Centric, Ulta, Sephora, Nordstrom, and other beauty supply stores, priced around $165.

Consumers urged to discontinue use of recalled curling irons

The Bio Ionic recall was initiated following 258 reports of the curling iron barrel detaching, resulting in six minor burn injuries. The recall notice advises consumers to immediately stop using the affected Barrel Curling Iron, unplug them, and contact Bio Ionic for a replacement. 

Customers are required to cut off the plug and return it to the company using a prepaid shipping label provided by Bio Ionic. 

J & D Brush Co. is offering free replacements for the defective curling irons. Consumers can obtain more information by contacting Bio Ionic toll-free at 877-853-9627, emailing [email protected], or visiting “Product Recalls” on its website.

J & D Brush Co.is not currently facing legal action over the Bio Ionic recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
