The recall was updated on Aug. 15 following an initial warning on Aug. 7. It includes a range of Andalos pastry products, such as Baklavas Rectangles, Baklavas Triangles, and Baklava Catering Trays, among others. The full list is available on the recall website.
These Andalos pastries are identified by specific UPC codes and were sold online and in select locations. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) conducted a food safety investigation that led to the inclusion of additional products in the Andalos recall.
The recall notice highlights the potential health risks associated with consuming the contaminated Andalos pastries.
Consumers warned against consuming affected pastries
Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled, but can still cause illness, the recall notice tells consumers.
The notice advises consumers to avoid consuming, using, selling, serving, or distributing the recalled Andalos pastries. The affected items should be disposed of or returned to the place of purchase .
Salmonella infection can lead to serious health issues, particularly for vulnerable groups such as young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms can include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea, with possible long-term complications like severe arthritis.
The recall notice states: “If you think you became sick from consuming a recalled product, contact your healthcare provider.”
Andalos is taking steps to ensure consumer safety by recalling the affected products and advising the public on the necessary precautions. The company has not reported any illnesses linked to the Andalos recall so far.
