TOMY initiates high chair recall due to fall hazard

High chair recall overview: 

• Who: TOMY recalled 83,000 of its Boon and Boon Flair high chairs in addition to 2,850 in Canada. 
• Why: The TOMY recall comes because bolts holding the high chair to the pedestal base can become loose and create a fall hazard.
• Where: The high chair recall is effective in the United States and Canada.

TOMY is recalling 83,000 of its Boon and Boon Flair high chairs because a bolt can become loose and create a fall hazard from the chair. The high chair recall includes 2,850 high chairs sold in Canada.

The Boon Flair high chairs involved in the recall were manufactured before September 2015 and have a white and orange molded plastic seat along with a white tray and metal pedestal base. The Flair high chairs have a gray plastic pedestal base and were sold in 10 color combinations, including blue/white, white/orange, pink/white, green/white, gray/green, white, gray, white/gray, white/blue and red/white. 

The TOMY recall includes Flair Elite high chair Model B751, Flair high chair models B701-B709, B716-B718, B731, B10147, B11068-B11069 and B11401. The model number and manufacturing date code are printed on a label located under the base of the high chair.

Consumers should stop using high chair, contact TOMY for repair kit, recall states

TOMY says it has received 34 reports of high chair issues, including 24 falls and 11 injuries such as bruising and scratches related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Consumers are asked to stop using the recalled high chairs immediately and contact TOMY for a free repair kit. They will receive a set of bolts and split and flat washers to repair the recalled high chair.

Another type of high chair was recalled in March when Clark Associates issued a recall of more than 22,000 Lancaster Table & Seating children’s high chairs, as they can break and pose a fall hazard to children.
