Frozen waffle recall overview:

  • Who: TreeHouse Foods Inc. has recalled certain frozen waffle products.
  • Why: The waffle products may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
  • Where: The frozen waffle recall is active in the United States and Canada.

TreeHouse Foods Inc. has recalled certain frozen waffle products sold under multiple brand names as they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The frozen waffle recall was published to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) website on Oct. 18. It applies to dozens of brands and flavors of frozen waffle products, with a full list of the recalled products available here.

According to the recall notice, the frozen waffles have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

This issue was discovered through routine testing at the manufacturing facility, the company says.

Healthy people may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. But Listeria monocytogenes infections can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

No reports of illness so far, recall says

The recalled waffle products were distributed throughout the United States and Canada and packed in various branded containers.

Consumers can identify the UPC of the recalled waffle products on the back of the carton, and the Lot Code and Best By Date for these products on the end of the carton.

There have been no confirmed reports of illness linked to the recalled products so far, the recall says.

“Anyone concerned about an illness should contact a healthcare provider,” it says.

Consumers should check their freezers for any of the products listed above and either dispose of them or return it to the place of purchase for a credit.

In August, Costco members were notified of a pair of recalls involving certain Kodiak-brand waffles and Rock River Cattle Co. skirt steaks. The Kodiak waffles were recalled over worries they may have been contaminated with soft plastic film.
