Hyundai 2022 Sante Fe and Mitsubishi 2022 Outlander Recall Overview:

  • Who: Hyundai and Mitsubishi have recalled more than 4,000 vehicles.
  • Why: The automakers say the 2022 Sante Fe and Outlander SUVs both have safety issues that increase drivers’ chances of having a crash.
  • Where: The recalls are effective nationwide in Canada.

Hyundai and Mitsubishi have recalled more than 4,000 of their 2022 vehicles in Canada due to safety issues that the automakers say increase drivers’ chances of having a crash.

Upside Down Display Panel Spurs Recall

Hyundai is recalling 300 of its 2022 Sante Fe SUVs, made between Oct. and Dec. 2021, due to a defect in the vehicles’ instrument display panel that can lead to an upside down image being shown on the display panel when the vehicles are started in very cold temperatures, according to a recall notice.

“If this happens, you may not be able to read certain information about controls, gauges and tell-tale indicators,” which could increase the risk of a crash, Hyundai says in the notice.

According to the car manufacturer, the problem stems from a faulty resistor installed in the instrument cluster, that does not perform at “extremely low temperatures.” Hyundai says the problem doesn’t occur while the vehicle is in motion or running, according to Auto123.

Hyundai says it will notify owners by mail starting this month and instruct them to take their vehicles to a dealer to replace the instrument panel cluster free of charge.

Outlanders Spontaneously Stall With Fuel Pump Defect

Meanwhile, Mitsubishi is recalling 3,903 of its 2022 Outlander SUVs, built between Feb. and Oct. 2021, due to an issue with the fuel pump that can lead vehicles to spontaneously lose power.

The company says in a recall notice that on certain vehicles, the fuel pump could fail due to a wiring issue, and, if that happens, “the engine could stall while driving and you may not be able to restart it.

Mitsubishi says this is a safety risk as a “sudden loss of engine power while driving could increase the risk of a crash.

Mitsubishi told National Highway Traffic Safety Administration the manifold and wires of the affected models were not properly fused to the fuel pump during the production process, resulting in poor continuity. This means the part can suddenly stop providing fuel to the engine, leading the vehicles to suddenly stall.

The automaker says in the recall notice it will notify owners by mail starting in March and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to replace the fuel pump.
