Hyundai Recall Overview:

  • Who: Owners of certain 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe and Sonata vehicles.
  • Why: These vehicles are being recalled for reportedly having poorly secured windshields that can come loose, creating an increased risk of injury in a crash.
  • Where: The Hyundai recall affects nearly 1,900 vehicles in Canada.

Hyundai has issued a recall of nearly 1,900 vehicles in Canada because of poorly secured windshields that can come loose.

The Hyundai windshield recall reportedly affects 2021 Santa Fe and Sonata vehicles.

These vehicles may be equipped with windshields that lack sufficient adhesion. If the windshield comes loose, wind and water may be able to enter the cabin.

If the recalled vehicle is involved in a collision, the windshield can potentially detach from the vehicle, creating an increased risk of injury.

Hyundai says it has not received any reports about the issue from vehicle owners so far. Affected vehicle owners will be notified about the Hyundai recall by mail. Hyundai will reportedly remove and reinstall the windshields in the affected vehicles.

The Hyundai windshield recall number is R0206. Transport Canada lists the Hyundai recall as 2021-791.

Loose Windshields Trigger Hyundai Recall in U.S., Too

Hyundai is also reportedly recalling 26,000 vehicles in the United States due to inadequate windshield adhesion. The U.S. Hyundai recall involves 2020 Hyundai Elantra and Sonata vehicles as well as 2020 and 2021 Santa Fe SUVs.

The issue is reportedly caused by faulty clear-coat paint to which the windshields may not properly adhere. As a result, vehicle owners may observe water leaking through the windshield or hear excessive wind noise while driving.

Hyundai says it is unaware of any accidents or injuries that may be related to the loose windshield issue. U.S. Hyundai dealerships will reportedly reinstall the windshields for free.

One thought on Hyundai Recall Issued Over Poorly Secured Windshields

We have a 2022 Tuscon that has a crack right around the front camera. Brought it to the dealership just to have them tell me its a stone chip, its not. No stone hit this thing, has 17,000kms on it, and -25 degrees my wife came out of her work to come home and it was cracked. They want us to give them $1600.00 and they said they will order the windshield but may take a while, seems like a scam and a common problem, they wont help. like the car but can’t stand the service. Avoid Finch Hyundai London Ontario, place is like a hangout for these workers, steadily gone down over the years. This is our fourth tuscon, and unfortunately our last.
