TURO SETTLEMENT UPDATE:
- The Court approved this settlement April 12, 2022.
- Let Top Class Actions know when you receive a check in the comments section below or on our Facebook page.
Consumers in the province of Quebec who booked a vehicle using the Turo website or mobile app may be eligible to get a payment thanks to a recent Turo drip pricing class action lawsuit settlement.
Settlement Class Members include Canadians who booked a vehicle anywhere in the world using the Turo website or mobile app while in Quebec between Nov. 4, 2016, and March 31, 2021 and who paid a higher price than was initially advertised.
Plaintiffs in the Turo class action lawsuit allege they were charged a higher price than was advertised on Turo’s vehicle booking website or app during the first step of the process. After advertising the vehicles at one price, Turo would then reveal a more expensive price later on in a practice called “drip pricing.” These actions, Plaintiffs allege, violate Quebec’s Consumer Protection Act.
The Plaintiffs’ allegations have never been proven or denied in Court. Turo contests the claims against them, and it does not accept legal liability for the allegations. Rather, both parties have agreed to resolve the issue by agreeing to the terms set forth in the Proposed Settlement Agreement.
Turo is one of the most popular ride-sharing apps in Canada. According to the company’s website, there were over 850,000 registered users in March of 2020, and there were a total of 32,000 available cars.
Eligible Class Members will receive one Settlement Credit, which will amount to $16.50 CAD. This credit can be used toward future vehicle bookings with Turo. It’s also transferable. This Settlement Credit cannot be redeemed for cash or get used to purchase a gift card or gift certificate.
Class Members who want to retain the right to sue Turo about this matter later must exclude themselves from the Settlement Class by March 18, 2022.
Class Members who want to make their objections to the Proposed Settlement known to the court must file an objection notice no later than March 18, 2022.
A final fairness hearing in the Turo class action lawsuit is scheduled to take place on April 12, 2022.
Class Members do not need to file a claim to receive their payment in the Turo drip pricing class action settlement.
