Update:

The claims period has opened for eligible Class Members in a $19 million Sainte-Anne Hospital veteran care class action settlement.

The Class is made up of any and all individuals who are or were veterans of World War II or the Korean War, and who resided at Sainte-Anne Hospital at any time as of April 1, 2016, or after, as well as their heirs, successors, and assigns.

The Montreal-area facility switched from federal control to provincial control in 2016, a class action lawsuit said, and when that happened, the quality of care veterans received diminished as Quebec cut salaries by 40 percent and implemented other changes.

The defendants deny all allegations of wrongdoing but have agreed to a settlement to resolve the class action lawsuit.

A judge approved the settlement April 29, 2021.

Class Members who want to take part in the settlement must submit a claim form and supporting documentation.

Each Class Member submitting a valid claim will be entitled to a share of the settlement fund. Their awards will be based on the number of days they spent at Sainte-Anne Hospital between April 1, 2016, and Oct. 31, 2020, multiplied by a fixed amount, according to the settlement notice.

Administration and other costs will also be paid from the veteran care settlement fund.

Class Members are expected to receive an estimated $43.67 per day they spent at Sainte-Anne Hospital during the Class Period, according to the judgment.

Claim forms were mailed to Class Members along with the veteran care settlement notice.

These forms must be completed and returned, along with the required supporting documentation, via fax at 514-845-3859, email, or mail at the following address:
