Loblaw and George Weston agreed to pay $500 million (around $384 million USD) as part of a Canadian class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims they conspired to raise the price of packaged bread products.

The Loblaw and George Weston class action settlement benefits Canadians who purchased packaged bread products (including bagged bread, buns, rolls, bagels, naan, English muffins, wraps, pita and tortillas) from Loblaw and George Weston between Jan. 1, 2001, and Dec. 31, 2021.

Loblaw is a grocery store chain with locations across Canada, and George Weston is a bakery company that sells products through Loblaw and other retailers.

According to several class action lawsuits, Loblaw and George Weston conspired with other retailers and bread manufacturers to raise and fix the price of packaged bread products. Consumers allegedly paid artificially inflated prices for years as a result of this scheme.

Loblaw and George Weston have not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $500 million CAD class action settlement to resolve these allegations. This Loblaw and George Weston class action lawsuit settlement is the first to be reached in the ongoing bread price-fixing litigation.

Under the terms of the Loblaw and George Weston class action settlement, class members can receive a cash payment based on the amount they paid for bread products during the class period.

Class members who have a valid receipt can receive a higher payment than those who do not have a receipt. Exact payment amounts will vary depending on the number of claims filed with the settlement.

You may submit your online claim for compensation for Packaged Bread purchased for personal use in the period 2001 to 2021, inclusive, beginning on Sept. 11, 2025.

No claim form is required to benefit from the Loblaw and George Weston class action lawsuit settlement. Class members who do not exclude themselves will automatically receive settlement benefits.
