Alberta AUPE Benefits Settlement Overview:

After months of negotiations, the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees reached a settlement with the Alberta government regarding the province’s proposed changes to government employees’ pay.
Alberta had previously sought to roll back salaries by four per cent, eliminate paid Christmas closure days, reduce weekend premium pay and shift differential pay and increase employee’s benefit burdens.
Instead, the deal settles on a 1.25 percent salary increase on Jan. 1, 2023, and a minimum 1.5 percent increase on Sept. 2023, with the potential for another 0.5 percent increase depending on economic and fiscal factors. The settlement includes an eight per cent increase for Rural Alberta Provincial Integrated Defence Response force (RAPID) employees, retroactive to April 1, 2021.
The settlement also maintains Employment Security for permanent staff as of Oct. 12, 2021 through Dec. 31, 2022.
The terms of this settlement affect 22,000 members who work in government services, including in corrections, conservation and social services, in addition to administrative and support service workers, sheriffs and trades workers.
Members of the AUPE must ratify the settlement for it to pass. The AUPE recommends its members ratify. If ratified, the settlement would expire March 31, 2024.
