Consumers who paid shipping or transportation costs on items covered by a Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) warranty may be able to claim some cash thanks to a $60,000 class action settlement.
The Class is made up of anyone in Quebec, who, since May 4, 2017, paid the costs of transportation or shipping for returns to Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC under its conventional warranty, for all SIE electronic products, when the warranty for their SIE product did not stipulate the consumer must pay transport or shipping costs.
A class action lawsuit filed in May 2020 accused Sony Interactive Entertainment of not stipulating in the conventional warranty that the consumer would have to pay shipping costs when returning the item for a repair covered by the warranty.
Sony Interactive Entertainment, a subsidiary of Sony Group Corp., maintains the PlayStation brand of game consoles and related services
SIE has agreed to the settlement but denies all allegations of wrongdoing and does not admit any liability.
If a judge grants final approval to the settlement, each Class Member will receive a cheque for $32.18.
This amount is based on the full amount of shipping costs claimed and incurred by the plaintiff.
No claim form is required in order to participate in the Sony Interactive Entertainment settlement.
Those wishing to exclude themselves from the settlement must do so by June 21, 2021. The deadline to object to the settlement is June 20, 2021.
A final hearing will be held June 21, 2021.
