Parkโ€™N Fly data breach overview:ย 

  • Who: Airport parking service Parkโ€™N Fly informed more than 1 million consumers that their private information may have been exposed during a July data breach.ย 
  • Why: Parkโ€™N Fly said the data breach was caused by a third party accessing its network via unauthorized remote VPN access.ย 
  • Where: Parkโ€™N Fly operates in Vancouver, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, Halifax and Montreal.ย 

Airport parking service Parkโ€™N Fly said approximately 1 million consumers may have had their private informationย  been exposed during a July data breach.ย 

Parkโ€™N Fly said the data breach occurred between July 11 and July 13 and may have exposed information such as names, email and mail addresses, and Aeroplan and CAA numbers, reports Global News.ย 

The company reportedly assured consumers that the data breach โ€” which it attributed to a third party accessing its network via unauthorized remote VPN access โ€” did not expose any financial information, however.ย 

Parkโ€™N Fly sent notification emails earlier this week to consumers who may have been impacted by the data breach, with the notice coming more than three weeks after the company discovered the incident, reports Global News.ย 

The company reportedly said in its email to consumers that it has been โ€œdiligently investigatingโ€ the data breach incident and is working with outside experts to do so.ย 

Parkโ€™N Fly says it pumped up cybersecurity measures in wake of data breach

Parkโ€™N Fly said it increased its cybersecurity measures following the data breach and that it was able to fully restore its platforms within five days of the incident, reports Global News.ย 

โ€œWhile we deeply regret any concern this incident may have caused, we want to reassure our valued customers and partners that we are taking all necessary steps to safeguard their information,โ€ said Parkโ€™N Fly CEO Carlo Marrello in a statement, as reported by Global News.ย 

Another recent data breach reportedly affected every person in Canada, the U.S. and the U.K., after a threat actor allegedly leaked almost 2.7 billion public records containing personal info on the Breached hacking forum.ย 

The incident involved a breach of data broker National Public Data and included two text files totaling 277GB and consisting of almost 2.7 billion plaintext records containing names, Social Security numbers, physical addresses and other possible information.ย
