Samsung ranges recall overview:ย

  • Who: Samsung is recalling more than 320,000 of its slide-in electric ranges.
  • Why: The ranges pose a fire hazard, and have caused injuries.
  • Where: The recall is active in Canada.

Samsung has recalled more than 320,000 of its slide-in electric ranges as they pose a fire hazard, and have caused injuries.

The recall was published to the Health Canada website on Aug. 28, and applies to 326,250 Samsung Electric Slide-In Ranges with the model numbers listed here. The recalled ranges were sold from 2013 through August 2024.

The model number can be found on the inside upper left corner of the range door or inside the storage bin located on the bottom of the range.

According to the recall, humans and pets can accidentally activate the front-mounted knobs on the ranges, which poses a fire hazard.

As of Aug. 28, the company has received over 57 reports of incidents in Canada, and seven reports of injuries, the recall says.

Free set of knobs available

Consumers should contact Samsung Canada to receive a free set of knob locks or covers compatible with their model of electric slide-in range to install.ย

In the meantime, consumers need to take care with the recalled ranges, the company said.

โ€œConsumers using the recalled ranges without knob locks or covers are cautioned to ensure that children and pets are kept away from the knobs, to not leave objects on the range when not in use, and to check that the knobs are off before leaving home or going to sleep,โ€ the recall says.

Consumers with Wi-Fi enabled ranges can enable the โ€œCooktop Onโ€ notification on the Samsung SmartThings app to receive alerts on their smartphone when a cooktop burner is turned on.ย

On Aug. 15, Samsung recalled more than 1.1 million electric ranges in the United States as they can be turned on by accident, leading to extensive fire damage, injuries and death.

  1. Darlene Serniuk says:

    I had a kitchen fire March 13 2025
    Mostly smoke damage.
Luckily I have an alarm system.
I canโ€™t believe these stoves have had a problem for so many years.
Mine was bought at Trail appliances nearly 5 years ago.
I also had an incident in Dec. when a Pyrex dish blew up due to the dial turning on .
I also read I can not sell or give away,so is Samsung giving me a new stove that isnโ€™t dangerous?

  3. Kurtis McLean says:

I just came home to a stove top on burning away at a paper bag that had accidentally been left on top. I was out for around 3 hoursโ€ฆ Iโ€™m truly lucky my apartment didnโ€™t go up in flames. The stove has turned on too easily a few times since I bought my condo in late 2021. My dad commented at the time that it was dangerous (he walked by it and it had turned on). These stove turn on WAY to easily by inadvertent actions. Iโ€™m snagging these free knob kits but I would have bought some if they werenโ€™t available. If thereโ€™s a class action in Canada Iโ€™ll certainly join it.. I have photos of the scariest incident that I came home to today.

Where do citizens of Ontario join a class action suit against Samsung

  5. Ginette Houle says:

    Hello Mr Corrado,

I have recently come across a class action lawsuit in effect presently which affects United States citizens and (defendants)

I am a Canadian citizen and I was wondering if there is any way that Canadians can join this particular claim and how I can be included should an agreement be settled in future.

I have posted a comment on the TCA site, which is I am pasting as part of this message:

After the purchase of a new property, during renovations, one of the tradesmen accidently walked by the Samsung slide in range which he may have brushed against and turned on the burner. The windows were open and a cross breeze sent papers which were on the counter onto the stove top resulting in a fire. Luckily I was present and smelled smoke in the house, one of the trades men, with his bare hands grabbed the pile of papers on fire and threw them into my brand new sink and ran the water to extinguish the smoldering mess. ๏ปฟThere were no injuries, and other than damage to the unit itself, just a big mess to clean up all of the smoke laden surfaces. ๏ปฟI immediately called the store from where I had purchased the appliance (one amongst 5) to complain. They said that they would send an investigator to evaluate the issue. Meanwhile, we did not want to use the unit as the surface was burned and damaged, and we were doubtful of its reliability for fear of another fire so we disconnected the unit. ๏ปฟBecause we had to move the unit out ourselves to unplug it, (we are seniors and needed to drag the unit as it was impossible to lift) my brand new hardwood floors sustained some considerable denting which was quite disappointing. ๏ปฟHad this unit been reliable and we would of not needed to unplug it ourselves the floors would of remained undamaged. ๏ปฟAfter the investigation carried out by the store, they deemed a free replacement of the same model, which was not what I wanted. I chose another unit for which they wanted to charge me 587$ more according to their price at the time. I mentioned to them that their competition had the same new unit at the same price that I had paid for the Samsung slide range and that they prided themselves on their price match policy. ๏ปฟThe representative informed that I was not eligible for a price match as it was a replacement unit and not a new purchase. ๏ปฟThis went on for months, without us being to cook. We made due with a microwave and the bar b q for those two months but not without extensive expense as many times we chose to simply eat out due to weather conditions preventing us from using the bar b q. ๏ปฟI did, finally come across another supervisor representative who quickly took care of my issue and arranged for a new range (GE) to be delivered without any additional costs to me. This lady completely understood our situation and I believe that at this point Samsung had received so many complaints that the store had been made aware. ๏ปฟA horrible experience for us, and I feel that some sort of compensation for what we experienced would be reasonable

I will attach photos as well

I would appreciate it if you could direct me to the proper channels so that I can pursue this.

    Regards
    Ginette Houle

  6. Lauren says:

My apartment caught fire because of one of these ranges. I lost all my belongings and had to move out for 6 months for repairs. It was an awfuI ordeal. I wasnโ€™t home when it happened. Most likely my dog turned on my stove. The fire department told me it was barely on. Burners should never be able to be turned on that easily.

  7. Gloria Horne says:

I purchased this stove in Fall of 2022. The issue with the knobs turning on too easily was noticed almost immediately and reported to Samsung. I was told to be more careful and to watch my children closer and teach my teens to be more careful in the kitchen! I was enraged and appalled by the response. I’m disgusted with Samsungs lack of responsibility when I reported this 2 years ago!!! Of course they waited until they were forced to make a recall. Shame on you!!!

  8. Marion Turbide says:

I have a still under warranty, recalled electric range from Samsung.
I did receive the knobs, they are cheap, and flimsy. This is definitely not the look I had in mind when I made the purchase.
I called the company, without any luck, even after speaking to the rude supervisor.
What angers me most, is that the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, sold or even given away in Canada. I can not even get rid of it without a complete financial loss.
I hope something can be done, so that consumers are no longer taken advantage of.
    Thank you,
    Marion
