UPDATE:
- The first distribution of money for Class Members is expected to take place March 21, 2022.
- Let Top Class Actions know when you receive a check in the comments section below or on our Facebook page.
Consumers who purchased or used a People’s Trust prepaid Visa or MasterCard may be able to benefit from a $17 million class action settlement.
The Class includes Ontario consumers who purchased or received a Peoples Trust prepaid Visa or MasterCard for personal, family, or household purposes between Nov. 29, 2011, and April 30, 2014.
The non-reloadable prepaid cards covered by this settlement are:
- Vanilla Prepaid Visa or MasterCard
- Give and Go Prepaid Visa
- House Points
- The Ideal Choice/Online Payment Card MasterCard
- Shell Non-Reloadable MasterCard
The reloadable cards covered are:
- Nextwave Titanium+ Prepaid Visa
- EPIC Prepaid MasterCard
- Evolve Prepaid Visa
- HorizonPlus Prepaid MasterCard
- PTC Company US Dollar Prepaid MasterCard
- Shell Prepaid Reloadable MasterCard
- YesCard Prepaid Visa
The Superior Court of Justice allowed the plaintiff’s claim, in part, awarding the Class damages of $16.8 million plus interest and costs in May 2019.
The Ontario Superior Court approved the settlement in September 2020.
The settlement resolves claims that Peoples Trust Company and Peoples Card Services LLP violated the province’s gift card regulation through certain fees and the seizure of unused balances on the prepaid Visa and MasterCard gift cards.
The $17 million settlement fund will be allocated into two pool:
- 29.2 percent will be payable to Class Members with reloadable prepaid cards
- 70.8 percent will be paid to Class Members with non-reloadable prepaid cards
These allocations are based on the damages claimed regarding each card type.
The funds may be reallocated between the two groups depending on how many people in each group submit a claim.
The deadline to opt out of the settlement passed in 2017, so Class Members are no longer able to exclude themselves.
Class Members who did not exclude themselves will be able to participate in the settlement and may receive a payment, but will not be able to start or continue their own case against People Trust regarding the claims resolved through this settlement.
The deadline to file a claim is June 4, 2021.

Why only ontario?
Only trudeaus minions are eleigible for refund on being robbed not the rest of canada?
Because it was start by and filed by a group in Ontario. Get the ball rolling in your province if it is warrended.
